the-area-head-12.05.17imgFinzean is in Royal Deeside, from Aberdeen the ‘Granite City’ to stunning rugged mountains we’re lucky to be in an area of Scotland that offers something for everyone.

Our beautiful and comfortable holiday cottage is located in a peaceful village, great for getting away from it all. You can enjoy the many short walks from the front door or have relaxing soak in the hot tub while enjoying the views of ‘our’ curiously shaped mountain Clachnaben. If you’re in the mood for exploring, the lively market town of Banchory is 10 minutes away and the picturesque village of Aboyne is also 10 minutes from our cottage. Both offer an abundance of leisurely sightseeing, shopping, fishing, golf, restaurants, pubs and Aboyne has a local cinema.
If you’re feeling energetic there’s plenty of options within easy coo-montreach, some of the finest sporting estates in the world are on your doorstep. Of course, with several good standard courses within easy reach, there’s always the option of golf, if that’s your bag. Maybe you’re interested in the fine and rugged landscape of upper Deeside and the Cairngorm mountains? There’s a fantastic network of paths, from easy rambles to a tea shop to very committing routes – all offering stunning views and memorable days out. We’re more than happy to point you in the right direction, we’ve listed a number of activities below.

Highland Games and Fairs 

braemar-montMost of the towns and villages around the cottage have an annual Highland Games or a Show day, which is a country fair. These days out are great fun and give a unique insight into local rural life in Aberdeenshire. Here are the biggest shows and their dates for the 2016 season.
